Did you ever get tired of watching boring movies and TV shows that don’t feature any sex scenes? Did you ever find yourself yawning through yet another rom-com with no steamy moments? Well, my Purrlings, let me tell you why erotic scenes in movies and television are necessary and downright beneficial and why I’ve started writing and publishing erotic short stories.
First and foremost: entertainment value. Let’s face it, we all enjoy a little bit of eye candy. Whether it’s a hot and heavy make-out scene or a full-blown sex scene, seeing attractive people getting it on is a surefire way to keep us engaged and interested in the story. After all, who doesn’t love a good visual? Plus, it’s a great way to keep the audience from falling asleep during the slower parts of a movie or TV show. You know what they say, “sex sells,” and it’s true. So, thank you, Hollywood, for providing us with the necessary stimulation to keep us from nodding off.
But it’s not just about the entertainment value, right? Erotic scenes in movies and TV shows can also serve a greater purpose. They do help to advance the plot or character development. When two characters engage in a steamy encounter, it can reveal a lot about their relationship, motivations, and emotional states. It can also highlight conflicts or tensions between characters, which can add to the overall dramatic tension of the story. So, if you’re one of those people who thinks erotic scenes are just gratuitous, think again. They can actually be an integral part of the storytelling process and, if they’re done right, they are.
But here’s the one that I identify with the most and why I started writing my erotic shorts and putting them out into the world. The potential to break down taboos and encourage healthy conversations about sex. Let’s face it, sex is still a somewhat taboo topic in many places and it’s ridiculous. Often there is a lot of shame and guilt associated with it. By featuring erotic scenes in movies and TV shows, we can start to break down those barriers and help people to feel more comfortable talking about sex in a healthy and positive way. This can lead to a greater understanding and acceptance of different sexual orientations, preferences, and identities. So, the next time you’re watching an erotic scene, don’t be afraid to start a conversation about it with your friends or family. You might just learn something new, not only about them, but about yourself. Embrace who are you, what you like, what turns you on… there’s zero fucking shame in it. I used to feel that shame, but now I’m working through it, and I’m enjoy sex on a whole new level.
I’d be remiss in this blog post if I didn’t mention the risk of objectification and exploitation. It’s important to acknowledge that some producers, writers, and directors may use erotic scenes solely for the purpose of titillation or shock value, and this can be problematic. I know many people see my erotic shorts that way – they’re here for the titillation value only. And sure, that’s partially true, because I want the people who read them to be turned on, to masturbate, or get horny enough to want to go fuck their chose partner or partners. But it’s also always consensual sex, because it’s important to remember that not all erotic scenes are created equal and that some are actually quite empowering and positive as women are the focus instead of the men. The women, you know, those of us who’ve been objectified and sexualized in media without our consent.
By featuring consensual and respectful (and yes, dirty and raw) sex scenes, I can help to normalize healthy sexual relationships and provide positive examples for readers. Because not all sex lives are created equal, either, and we should embrace whatever sex life we choose to have.
Thanks for coming to my PurrTalk, brought to you by all those who’ve asked me why!
